The master fader worked immediately and other channels were responsive and effective on the faders. and I have to say I was impressed for the most part.

Out of curiosity then, I decided to install the bundled copy of Cubase LE to check functionality.

However, I have been having some audio driver issues with Pro-Tools recently (not recognising the audio interface/crashes/corrupting sessions) so I have been considering a move to Cubase Pro as a lot of my work is Virtual Instrument based - we all know that Pro-Tools is not the kindest of Midi editors. Really I'd agree that you're only getting a small portion of what you are paying for with the desk when operating using HUI, and I'd probably steer clear. I'm also aware that the HUI protocol is quite limited in its operation clearly Avid are definitely trying to keep tight control of their peripherals. I also struggled to get any response from the jog wheel. The master fader didn't work as documented, however, and the DAW control buttons on the right of the unit didn't seem to respond to the majority of functions mapped on the Pro Tools overlay, which felt to be disappointing, though in some cases I might have been making the wrong assumption of functionality of particular buttons (as the provided documentation does feel to be limited in explanation). The faders were relatively responsive and the basic transport functionality worked. My assessment was reasonable - the 8 track faders all talked to PT and scrolled through effectively. I had some significant teething trouble with setting it up as a HUI peripheral in PT11, though after a fair few restarts of the software/computer and the unit I got them to talk. The unit seemed well-built and all buttons/faders/rotary encoders seemingly worked fine from the outset.

Having received the console I installed the 1.14 firmware update for the QCon Pro X and the windows 10 drivers. FYI I'm using Pro Tools 11 on windows 10 - for me it was a decision between the Avid Artist series, saving a fair bit longer and going for the MCU or buying a second hand Digi003 Factory, which is still supported by Pro tools. I've just bought one of these units, and have to say that as soon as I ordered it I found this thread, which definitely scared me a little with the reported issues.

Outside of those issues, it is thus far no worse than my sets of MCU's and anything is more stable in Logic than Eucon so it beats my Artist control there. No master LED meter, which is annoying but not crippling. Otherwise, I am experiencing much of the same as everyone else. This is unbelievably frustrating, and makes the meters useless for anything other than clip indication. So no matter how fast you set the decay time, you alwasy have an 800mS delay before they start responding again. Which means that while the meters respond to peaks well, they hold at peak value, fully lit. Which wouldn't be an issue EXCEPT the meters on the Pro X stay fully lit for the whole 800mS. Which wouldn't be an issue except the slowest peak hold setting is 800mS. HOWEVER - The meters also follow Logic's peak-hold settings. Havn't tried this in PT yet, but I thought this was super cool.

In Logic, the LED meters actually seem to follow Logic's ballistics settings. One initial observation and feedback for the Icon guys if they're still here: I mix in both Logic (primary) and ProTools (less often). In the middle of a couple mixing projects so it will get a workout. Gearslutz has been my go to whenever i need info and I have never run into such a black hole for a product before its as if its all be censored or something, even on youtube there is little to nothing, some 3 minute vids of unboxing and namm promos, 1-2 in action videos thats it!It has been out a little while i would have expected more than a little blub here and there it reminds me of the Jaguar CD gaming system now you have it poof its gone forever? Did icon go out of business and fold up shop or something? I figured I would just read up most of what i need to know in the forum but there isn't much there is that because this device just sucks so bad nobody cares about it or am i just missing the threads? I hope it doesn't suck that bad / mine is coming in a few days!īy suck i meant lost interest in prox because explosively popular competition like faderport8, prox having so many bugs, poor technical support that people are avoiding it. I am in Vietnam (risky mail delivery and the worst retail on the planet) and was cornered to buy a prox for lack of other options.
